Fever Clinic Patient Workflow & SOP
The Fever Clinic operates as a dedicated isolated unit within KKBM, physically separated from the main clinic to protect both patients and staff. This page describes the Fever Clinic-specific patient flow and deviations from the general patient journey. Detailed Patient Journey
Triage (A) & Redirection
- Patient arrives at Triage Counter A.
- If fever or URTI symptoms are detected, transfer patient to the isolated Fever Unit.
- Provide a face mask immediately and instruct the patient to avoid the general waiting area.
Fever Unit Registration
- Registration staff key in basic details.
- If eligible, payment is processed and a checklist is issued along with a queue number.
Allocate to Doctor's Fever Room
- Registration staff assign patient to Doctor's Room in CCMS.
Vital Signs & Anthropometry
- Vitals and anthropometric details recorded by Health Assistant (PPK) using the Assessment & Procedure Template↴.
- Ensure accurate measurement and complete all 5 vital signs parameters.
- Escalate to MO immediately if narrow pulse pressure, abnormal BP, tachycardia, or high-risk travel history is identified.
Waiting for Doctor Consultation
- Patient sits in the designated isolated waiting area with checklist and queue number.
Doctor Consultation & Assessment
- Once patient status shows "Waiting", the doctor calls the patient via Systmone call system.
- Use the JKN Johor Fever & Dengue Template in SystmOne.
- Clinical assessment, diagnosis formulation, and treatment planning initiated.
1. Further Testing
- Blood test & procedure: allocate to Room Procedure 8
- X-Ray: allocate to x-ray unit
- Sputum test: allocate to TB clinic for sputum collection & further TCA
2. ED Referral
- Generate & prepare referral letter (CCMS)
- Allocate patient to Room 8
- OPD ED Referral Protocol↴
- Accompany patient to Room 8 when necessary
3. Infectious Disease
- Register & notify patient details via e-notis↴
- Alert designated IK via call
- Start home quarantine protocol
Back from procedure or investigations
- Patient returns to consultation room with results.
- Finalise diagnosis using SNOMED-CT↴ coding.
- Complete treatment plan and update checklist.
Appointment Given — Conditional
- Appointment set in SystmOne, TCA card given.
- Fever Clinic appointments are given only when clinically indicated; most acute cases are walk-in.
Medication Prescription & Discharge
- Meds prescribed in SystmOne integrated with PHIS↴.
- No printed medication slip needed.
- Patient discharged from Fever Unit.
Infection Control
The Fever Clinic follows the clinic-wide Patient Identification & Safety↴ Infection Control Standard↴, with enhanced protocols for febrile and respiratory patients:
