General Patient Journey

For Detailed SOP

This is a high-level overview. For the complete TB workflow — including new case management (TBIS 101D, Category I/II, 1-2-4-6 month milestones), DOTS supervision, contact tracing, defaulter tracing, and Chest Clinic escalation — see TB Clinical Workflow.

Case Detection & Registration

Patient is screened at triage, OPD, or Fever Clinic and redirected to the TB Clinic. A new case form is initiated and the patient is registered in the TBIS 101D logbook and SystmOne.

Medical Assessment & Treatment Initiation

Medical officer evaluates the case using the New TB Case Template, initiates Category I or II treatment, and provides health education on disease, medication, and infection control.

DOTS Supervision

Patient attends daily for directly observed therapy. Each dose is documented in SystmOne by the assigned nurse or medical assistant, with tracking of missed doses and side effects.

Treatment Monitoring

Monthly reviews at 1, 2, and 4 months include sputum AFB, chest X-ray, weight checks, and clinical review. Complex cases are escalated to the FMS or Chest Clinic.

Cure Evaluation

At 6 months, final sputum and chest X-ray are reviewed. If negative with no complications, the patient is declared cured and a discharge plan is prepared.

Post-Treatment Follow-Up

After cure, the patient is followed up at 3, 6, and 9 months post-treatment to detect relapse and ensure long-term recovery.
